Xbox Series X/S Deep Cleaning – Mission Viejo & Orange County
Every Xbox Series X/S pulls air through its fan and heatsink to stay cool, and over the years dust, lint and pet hair pack into the fan blades and the fins of the heatsink. Air can't get through, so the fan spins faster and louder, the console gets hot, and eventually it can slow down or shut itself off. The Series X uses one large fan on top that pulls air up through the tower, and the Series S uses a smaller fan that pushes air out the back.
We open the console, remove the fan, clean the dust out of the fan and the heatsink fins, clean the vents and check that the fan spins smoothly. Then we put it back together and run a game to make sure it stays cool and quiet.

Signs Your Xbox Series X/S Needs This Repair
- The fan is loud or roars during games.
- The console feels very hot, or hot air barely comes out of the vents.
- It shows an overheating warning or shuts off in the middle of a game.
- Games stutter or slow down after you've been playing for a while.
- You can see dust or pet hair in the vents, or it hasn't been cleaned in a year or more.
How often should a console be cleaned?
For most homes, every 1 to 2 years. If you have pets, smoke, or the console sits in a cabinet or on the carpet, once a year keeps it running cool. Leaving a few inches of open space around the vents helps a lot too.

Not sure which model you have?
Look for Model 1882 (Series X) or Model 1883 (Series S) on the label on the back or bottom of your console.
Not sure what repair you need?
Move the console somewhere with open space around the vents and see if it runs quieter. If it's still loud or hot, a deep cleaning is the place to start. If it's still hot after a cleaning, the thermal paste probably needs replacing: see Xbox Series X/S Thermal Paste Replacement. If the fan grinds, rattles or doesn't spin at all, you need a Xbox Series X/S Fan Replacement instead.
Still under Microsoft's warranty?
If your console is still under the manufacturer's warranty and wasn't dropped or damaged, check with Microsoft first. Opening the console here may affect that warranty.
