Instead of ordinary thermal paste, Sony uses liquid metal between the PS5's processor and its heatsink. Over years of heating and cooling it can shift or dry out, and the console starts running hot and loud even when it's clean.

Liquid metal conducts electricity, so this is a careful job. We remove the old liquid metal, protect the parts around the processor, apply fresh liquid metal and reseal the barrier that keeps it in place. This repair also includes our full deep cleaning: we clean the fan, the heatsink fins and the vents while the console is open, and test it under load before you pick it up.

Most overheating PS5s only need a deep cleaning. If that's all yours needs, we'll tell you and charge for the cleaning instead.

Is liquid metal replacement risky?
It is if it's done carelessly, because a stray drop of liquid metal on the motherboard can short it. That's why we don't recommend doing it at home. We work under magnification, protect the area around the processor and reseal it before closing the console.

Not sure which model you have?
Look for the model number that starts with CFI- on the label on the back or bottom of your console. CFI-1 is the original PS5, CFI-2 is the PS5 Slim and CFI-7 is the PS5 Pro.

Not sure what repair you need?
